Diagnosis

What this notice means

A trip supplies shape_dist_traveled in stop_times.txt, but its shape lacks distances on some or all points.

Operational effect

Why it matters

Apps cannot reliably locate those stop distances on the route geometry.

Scope

Files to check and report fields

Report fieldTypeMeaning
shapeIdstringThe shape_id referenced by the trip.
stopTimeCsvRowNumberintegerThe row number of the first stop_times.txt record for this trip that contains a shape_dist_traveled value. Provided as a representative location; other stop times for the same trip may also carry distance values.
tripCsvRowNumberintegerThe row number of the faulty record in trips.txt.
tripIdstringThe trip_id of the faulty trip.

Repair

How to fix it

  1. 1

Find the trip's shape_id and inspect every point in shapes.txt; the report may identify only a representative stop-time row.

  2. 2

Populate consistent cumulative distances for all shape points using the same units and origin as the stop times. Recalculate both sides when needed.

  3. 3
    Check the result

After a repair, rebuild the archive and validate it again. Confirm that the affected records are correct and that no new related notices appeared. A reviewed warning or informational notice may remain when it describes intentional, supported data.
